A Message from Our Principal Ms. Medina

Dear P.S. 85 Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We hope you had a joyous summer but also had time to relax with your families and loved ones. We are excited to welcome everyone back to school on Thursday, September 8.
It is a pleasure to continue our commitment to the education of our scholars in partnership with you as parents and guardians. We can all agree that the last few years have been challenging, but together, we have persevered and we can safely say that today we are stronger as a community and ready to embrace the educational journey our students deserve. As a school, we are eager to start a new year with our students and engage in the paradigm shift that will lead to the academic success of our students. We have been preparing to welcome our students, continuing to plan for instruction as it aligns to the Next Generation Standards while placing focus on our students Social Emotional Needs through our work with restorative practices, mood meters and Brain Power Activities. Our school wide goals are to:

• Encourage intellectual curiosity and a desire to continue learning
• Stimulate critical thinking and help develop the ability to make informed decisions
• Provide opportunities for the development of student directed work as it relates with his/her interests, needs, aptitudes, and abilities and culture
• Support the development of students' self-efficacy, confidence and sense of purpose and personal responsibility, and a desire to be of service to society
